This was my reaction to Netflix’s line up this month.

When I saw the Amazon Prime line up.

Amazon continues rolling out an impressive line up of VOD every month and this May is no different. We have a slew of Bond films, comedies and dramas. While Netflix has an edge right now with more original content rolling out particularly their comedy specials, and being the buzzword for VOD, one would be wise not to ignore the 800lb gorilla in the room that is Amazon Prime.

Quietly Amazon Prime has been steadily releasing higher quality content than Netflix, take a moment and visit whats new on Netflix and then whats new on Amazon Prime this month.

Done?

While at first glance Netflix has the advantage based on the sheer volume of titles, outside of the Netflix Originals and comedy specials the only title that was engaging vaguely was The Replacements, and that’s a bit of a stretch.

3 Guys Named Mike
Airplane!
Airplane II: The Sequel

Surely you have seen the Airplane! films (this is where you say yes and don’t call me Shirley), If not here’s your opportunity to watch a film that has no peers in pure silliness. There have been many that have tried to emulate Airplane! with varying degrees of success, but there has not been a movie since that has been able to recapture the irreverent humor of Airplane! since, including the sequel. While Airplane 2 kinda sucked, at least it’s free.

Bargee
Benny and Joon – If you want to remember a time when Johnny Depp still made good movies..
Best Seller (1987)
Bitter Moon
The Bounty (1984)
Bully

Bully is an authentic take on an actual murder that took place in 1993 in Florida. Directed by Larry Clark of Kids fame is most certainly stream worthy.
Chinese Box
Code 46
Coming Soon (1999)
Corsair
The Criminal (1962)
Cry Of The Banshee
Diamonds Are Forever
Die Another Day
Dream A Little Dream
Election (1999)

Directed by Alexander Payne (Sideways, Nebraska) Election is a cynical biting look at America’s political system. I don’t think there has been a better time to catch this flick.

Frankenstein (2004)
Ghost World
Goldfinger

Connery as Bond, does it get any better?

The Heart of the Matter (1953)
Hoodlum (1997)

Completely forgot about this take on the 1930’s gangsters,  Dutch Schultz and Bumpy Johnson. Loved it back in the day, I wonder how it holds up?

Le Sauvage (English Subtitled)
Leaving Las Vegas
Live and Let Die
Meet John Doe
Meet Wally Sparks
Men with Brooms

I’m usually not a fan of rom-coms and this is no exception. Do not let Leslie Nielsen fool you into watching this one.

Molly (1951)
Mr. Music
Mystery Team
Never Say Never Again
Nothing But The Night
Octopussy
Pretty Boy Floyd
Racing Scene
The Red Violin
Rock and Roll Revue
The Second Coming of Suzanne
Sex, Lies And Videotape

The original Fifty Shades of Grey
She’s Having a Baby
Slow Burn (2000)
Southie
Standing in the Shadows of Motown
The Story Of Gilbert and Sullivan
Stranger Who Looks Like Me
The Living Daylights
The Man With the Golden Gun
The Mod Squad
The Spy Who Loved Me
Vice Versa (1988)
When Harry Met Sally
You Only Live Twice
The Young In Heart

Well that wraps it up for VOD this month, pretty soon I may have to incorporate YouTube Red in this conversation. What are your thoughts?
