What’s New on VOD: Amazon Prime November 2017.

Amazon Prime has another modest month of originals while adding the NFL and 007 to your viewing regimen.

What's New on VOD: Amazon Prime November 2017.
Well…at least the cat food is cheap and arrives on time.

I know it might be unfair to compare Amazon Prime to Netflix every month.  One is a dedicated streaming platform that lives or dies on its programing.  The other is a site that ships me cat food and e-books, and happens to have a decent selection of movies for me to rent.  Apples to Oranges, and whatnot.  But having just finished the Netflix preview and their 30+ original programs, and then doing the Amazon Prime preview and their 6 original programs…it becomes apparent who is going all-in on the production front.

Now that I’m done bashing Amazon for their quantity, I have to bash on an unexpected front:  the quality.  The Big Sick is a stellar comedy and well worth your time, but the rest of the exclusives on offer are thin gruel and kiddie stuff.  Even the new NFL programing is the lousy Thursday games that nobody watches! Here’s hoping Amazon can at least gear up to go out strong by the end of the year.

Amazon Prime November 2017.

Original Movies.

  • Landline (11/17)

  • The Big Sick (11/24)
  • Click Clack Moo Holiday (11/28)

Our Pick:  The Big Sick.

We covered The Big Sick earlier when the trailer dropped, and we’re still impressed with the finished product.  The story of two very different people who hash out what it means to have a relationship during a prolonged illness still has the goods in both the romantic and comedic departments.  I haven’t met my quota of reviewing one Rom Com this year, so I’m glad that Amazon is stepping up to help me out by making this one on the house.

Original Series.

  • If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, season 1 (11/7)
  • The Stinky And Dirty Show, season 2 (11/23)
  • The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, season 1 (11/29)

Our Pick:  If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

Well…this is…something.  We already covered Mrs. Maisel in our Prime Pilot reactions, and the vote was “no confidence.”  The Stinky and Dirty Show sounds like it should be about our current government situation, but is instead a fairly standard kids learning show.  So I guess by default, I am more willing to find out what happens when you give a cookie to a rodent than to watch these other shows.  Not exactly a stellar line up this month.
