What’s New To Netflix July 2016

new to netflix july 2016

It’s summer time and and what’s a better way to keep cool then binge watching some Netflix?

This month there are a few interesting choices with a solid mix of newer films like The Big Short, The Invitation, as well as classics such as the Back To The Future trilogy, The “We overstayed our welcome” Lethal Weapon franchise and the first two films of Beverly Hills Cop, Apparently even Netflix won’t touch the third installment of that series.

My Picks For Netflix July 2016

The Big Short

An Excerpt from my review of The Big Short:

The Big Short manages to be a fun film with strong performances that tries to inform the viewer about the shady business that went down, while mostly avoiding coming off as preachy or patronizing.

It wasn’t a home run folks as it may have been a bit over-ambitious. However it was still entertaining while dropping some knowledge.

The Invitation

A creepy little Indie flick.

I’m a fan of films that use atmosphere and tension to to deliver the chills and thrills. The Invitation plays the long game here, and I’m sold.

GRIDLOCK’D

A surprisingly well done satire on drug addiction in America.

Perhaps a top 20 film in my all time list, Gridlock’d features epic performances from Tupac Shakur and (one of my favorites) Tim Roth. A blend of violence, drama, and comedy – Gridlock’d pulls you into a world of hope and futility and the asinine workings of our governments war on drugs.

Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru

Ok, I might eat some shit for this one..  For along time I thought Tony Robbins as well as his self help brethren were scams.. Do they prey on the weak to gain fortune and recognition?

The answer to that is probably a bit murky.. Yes,  Tony Robbins profits off his motivational speaking. But is that a reason to write him off, is he the snake oil  salesman of our time?

Well Tony Robbins intrigued me after listening to him on Tim Ferris’s Podcast.  I dove into his work, read his books and can say without a doubt,  Tony Robbins is not only worth listening to, you may benefit from his Netflix special. Just avoid the hot coals…

BoJack Horseman (Season 3)

The animation can be a bit oft-putting at first, yet Bojack Horseman is a comic gem.

Ok forget TMNT, and  his involvement with Michael Bay! Will Arnett is still incredibly talented, and his latest project Bojack Horseman manages to be poignant, silly and worth a look.

Gladiator

Here’s another classic, that everyone has seen, but me.

I don’t know what it is but I have tried to watch this movie 5 times and fell dead asleep everytime. Perhaps it’s the copious amount of beers that I have to consume before watching Russel Crowe. Now that Gladiator is on Netflix maybe i can finish it…

I still feel this is Crowes best medium:

Overall not a bad lineup for Netflix this month. Was it enough to beat out Amazon Prime? Stay tuned loyal reader..
