Eddie Murphy in New ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ from ‘Ghost Protocol’ Scribes

Beverly Hills Cop

Just last week we learned that the failed CBS pilot for a Beverly Hills Cop TV adaptation didn’t get network attention for a series order, but the focus group testing on the attempt yielded positive results, causing Paramount Pictures to consider making another film again. Previous attempts involved director Brett Ratner, but now it appears the studio is starting from scratch. Eddie Murphy is still very much involved and Deadline reports scripting duties have fallen in the hands of writing duo Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

It seems like a no -brainer to bring back a franchise that grossed $750 million altogether, and that was back in the 80s and 90s. However, Eddie Murphy isn’t exactly the most popular of movie stars lately, despite being a household name, and nowhere near in demand as he was during those decades. Getting Appelbaum and Nemec to script is an interesting notion though, since they kept the Mission: Impossiblefranchise going strong for director Brad Bird. We’re still not sure if the new film will use the TV pilot’s notion of including Axel Foley’s son, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea. Hopefully once the script is done, we can get somebody other than Brett Ratner to direct the flick this time. Thoughts?
