Box Office Wrap Up: 7/10/15 – 7/12/15
Minions killed at the Box Office this weekend with a staggering $115.2 million debut weekend. That is the second-biggest debut weekend for an animated film, barely coming up short of Shrek The Third‘s $121 million.
Despite a modest $74 Million budget, Minions really got aggressive with its advertising. Honestly, you’d have to live in a cave not to be aware of this flick.
While it is an off-shoot and not a true sequel, (Despicable Me 3 is set for release in summer 2017) Minions still improved on the opening-weekend total delivered by Despicable Me 2 by nearly 40 percent, despite having a weaker critical reception.
Dinosaur mayhem continued apace and Jurassic World is still chewing up its competition. The blockbuster made $18.1 million in its fifth weekend, good enough for the No. 2 spot, and continues to trample towards a $600 million total in North America.
Despite Inside Out snapping Jurassic World’s dominance last weekend, Inside Out fell to $17.1 million. Terminator Genisys continued to underwhelm at fourth place in its second weekend, making just $13.7 million.
Remember when Ryan Reynolds was the next big thing? I do, and I still love his work…but Ryan can’t get butts into theater seats lately. Self/Less earned just $5.38 million for its opening weekend, and managed an abysmal 20% on the tomatoemeter.
