The box office remained largely unchanged, giving Wonder Woman a third week at the top.
The new limited release films failed to bolster the box office. This led to a weekend with very little movement. With a new wide release in the pipes for Friday, hopefully we’ll start to see some shake-ups in the numbers.
This Week in Box Office History.
The only thing that changed at the box office this weekend was the numbers. The total earnings continued to slide, dropping just under 30% compared to last week’s totals. Despite the loss, we still saw four films finish over one million dollars in ticket sales, a relatively healthy sign for theater attendance.
Top Film One Year Ago: 1917.
Top Film Ten Years Ago: The Green Hornet.
Top Film 39 Years Ago*: Sharky’s Machine.
*No earning figures are recorded for January 1981.
Top Three Films.
The standings for the top 8 films remain unchanged from last week. Wonder Woman pulled in another 3 million dollars for a 32 million dollar total. The Croods secured second place and 1.8 million, for a 36 million dollar haul. News of the World finished in third, adding 1.2 million dollars to its total of just over 7 million dollars.
The three limited release films all fell out of the top ten. Some Kind of Heaven finished in 14th, taking in just under 10 thousand at 54 locations. Average Joe took in under three thousand at five screens in 18th. Zombie Bro lurched into just one location for a total just under one thousand five hundred dollars and a 19th place finish.
