We get another weekend with just one new wide release. While Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood probably won’t make Lion King money, it is generating a ton of buzz.
For those looking for alternatives, it really is a bit of a fallow week. A24’s family comedy/drama The Farewell is expanding from a limited release, but is nowhere near a wide release. That leaves the streaming market, which oddly only has two entries this week. I guess go out and get some sun?

As the era of 1960’s Hollywood is passing away, a former TV heart throb (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double (Brad Pitt) try to launch a renaissance, while inadvertently getting sucked into the orbit of the Manson family.
Limited Release Expansion.
Based on a true story, a family tries to reunite after decades of separation when they get news that family matriarch Nai Nai is terminally ill. The rub is that nobody wants to tell Nai Nai the diagnosis, and have to pretend they’re all returning to China for other reasons!

An older man (Richard Dreyfus) finds one last chance to realize his dream of becoming an astronaut when he enters a national competition offering a trip to space. Unfortunately, he has to battle time, health, his family, and the little matter of lying about his age in order to win!
