Podcast Review: Atomic Blonde.
We discuss the new spy action flick, Atomic Blonde, starring Charlize Theron and James McAvoy.
We’ve been back and forth over this movie. My first impression of the film was that it was intriguing but unproven, so I left it off of our Most Anticipated List way back in January. More material came along, as well a fully fleshed out cast and crew list, and I started to get excited for the project. With a week left to go, I was still up in the air based on some early reviews. Well, the wait is over and we’ve seen the finished product. Join us below to see which early opinion was right.
Atomic Blonde (2017)
Charlize Theron plays Agent Broughton, a spy for MI6. When a friend carrying top secret documents is murdered in Berlin, she is sent in to retrieve the dossier. While she’s in town, she’s also hoping to shake up the Cold War by knocking together the heads of anyone who was responsible for her colleague’s death.
This is the first feature film directed by David Leitch as a solo director. Previously he had done uncredited work on John Wick, and his decades of experience as a stuntman and choreographer really showed in that project. Atomic Blonde is based on a graphic novel, The Coldest City, and it is the latest Hollywood adaptation of a lesser-known comic. Since Leitch is being given the nod to helm Deadpool 2, we can assume he’s got a solid grip when it comes to comic book movies.
