We came at this film from multiple angles. I had seen every version of the story beforehand, Nate watched the film with no prior knowledge of the plot. At the end of the day, we hashed out whether the film stood up to the classics and whether it stood up as a solid murder mystery.
Murder on the Orient Express.
World famous detective Hercule Poirot has just solved a sensitive case in Istanbul before being called into service in London on an emergency. He books passage on the famous Orient Express at the last minute, thanks to a friend who has become the manager of the train. His presence becomes fortuitous, as the train is thrown into turmoil. An avalanche blocks passage on the very same night that a passenger is murdered. Hercule Poirot agrees to solve the case as they wait for rescue, knowing that if he fails that the provincial government of the area will “solve” the murder by hanging anyone they suspect.
