What's New on Amazon Prime: April 2020.

Amazon moves to scoop up future “theatrical home releases” but the shelves look a little bare in April.

Amazon looks to be one of the big winners in the sweepstakes to lure in films deprived of a theatrical release. In the coming months we’ll start to see big Hollywood movies as well as festival fare such as SXSW nominees.

Unfortunately, that’s all on the horizon. For now, Amazon is going to the well with well-worn and ubiquitous titles…and a few notable originals. When 75% of your release line-up is the same old James Bond staples (now in ultra 4K!), you know you’re struggling for content.

Twice…unless you count all the re-runs on TBS.

New and Notable.

  • Invisible Life (Apr. 3): Two sisters in Brazil, Euridice and Guida, inseparable since childhood, find themselves pulled apart by marriage, family, and social expectations as they become adults.
  • Tales from the Loop, Season 1 (Apr. 3): A small town in Ohio houses an experimental scientific compound under their feet. As the enigmatic founder (Jonathan Pryce) probes the boundaries of physics, the townspeople try to go about their lives.
  • Selah and the Spades (Apr. 17): At an elite prep school, Selah Summers (Lovie Simone) sits at the top of the pecking order as the calculating leader of the most powerful clique, the Spades.
