What's New on Amazon Prime: April 2021.

Amazon has a solid spring lined up with original series and Michael B. Jordan in Tom Clancy’s latest action flick.

Prime has a little bit of everything in April. For originals, several new series premier that have the potential to go big, and Amazon also looks to get into the action movie business in a big way with Michael B. Jordan taking a spin in a Tom Clancy vehicle. The classic and third party selection actually boasts a ton of film’s worth your attention, and Prime does manage to land some recent theatrical releases such as Unhinged and Wander.

New and Notable.

  • Frank of Ireland, Season 1 (TBA)

Brian Gleeson stars as Frank Marron, a 32-year-old catastrophe; a misanthropic fantasist in arrested development who’s convinced that the world owes him. He’s also our hero. Frank is newly single and still lives at home with his mother, Mary (Pom Boyd). He’s a self-proclaimed musician with a tenuous hold on reality, and hasn’t written a song or played a gig in years. His ex-girlfriend Áine (Sarah Greene) has just found a new boyfriend, and Frank may be finding that a tad difficult. Luckily, Frank has a loyal best friend, Doofus, (Domhnall Gleeson) whose full-time job is clearing the debris left in Frank’s wake.

…OK, Amazon. I’ll bite. Show me Domhnall Gleeson being funny.

  • THEM, Season 1 (Apr. 9)

The Emorys move to Compton, but Palmer Drive isn’t what it seems.

This horror series has got me all kinds of interested. From the period piece setting to the stellar performances, and all the way to the pervading dread and weirdness of the tone, I’ve eager to put this series through its paces.

  • Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse (Apr. 30)

John Kelly (Micahel B Jordan) is a U.S. Navy SEAL who uncovers an international conspiracy while seeking justice for the murder of his pregnant wife by Russian soldiers. When Kelly joins forces with fellow SEAL Karen Greer and shadowy CIA agent Robert Ritter, the mission unwittingly exposes a covert plot that threatens to engulf the U.S. and Russia in an all-out war.

Most of the Tom Clancy universe hasn’t set my world on fire, but I do relish the chance to see Michael B. Jordan kick a metric ton of ass, so thumbs up.
