What's New on Amazon Prime: March 2021

Hopefully Eddie Murphy’s comeback tour continues to deliver great results.

Here we are again. Another month of slim pickings on Amazon Prime. Besides another stop on Eddie Murphy’s resurgent comedy circuit, Prime is looking pretty barren. I guess Jeff Bezos is too busy stomping on unions to spend his pocket change on actually acquiring original material.*

*Why yes, I will keep banging this drum as long as a)Jeff Bezos keeps being a prick and b)Amazon Prime keeps offering up threadbare content.

Yes! F You Too, Jeff!

New and Notable

  • Coming 2 America (Mar. 5)

Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi(Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began – searching for the king’s heir.

Well, if Amazon is only going to have one original this month, it might as well be this one! That cast is stacked and Eddie and Arsenio look like they never dropped a step in their routine. Hopefully another addition to the “sequels worth the wait” list.

  • Honest Thief (Mar. 12)

Hoping to cut a deal, a professional bank robber agrees to return all the money he stole in exchange for a reduced sentence. But when two FBI agents set him up for murder, he must now go on the run to clear his name and bring them to justice.

The first of two films you probably missed in theaters recently. Liam Neeson made a billion films during the pandemic, it seems…maybe this was the good one?

  • Words on Bathroom Walls (Mar. 19)

Diagnosed with a mental illness during his senior year of high school, a witty, introspective teen struggles to keep it a secret while falling in love with a brilliant classmate who inspires him to open his heart and not be defined by his condition.

The other film you probably missed. Critics seemed to like it. That’s all I got.
