What's New on Hulu: December 2020.

Hulu drops new original series and a ton of classic movies for the holidays.

Hulu has had a great year, and finishes off with a decent flourish. Three original series round out 2020, including an adaptation of the famous boy detectives, the Hardy Boys. We also get a ton of classic movies, as well as several limited release films that slipped between the cracks this year. All in all, a solid finish.

New and Notable

The Hardy Boys (Dec. 4)

Every town has its secrets. When the Hardy boys, Frank (16) and Joe (12), arrive in Bridgeport, they set out to uncover the truth behind the recent tragedy that has changed their lives, and in doing so, uncover something much more sinister.

I grew up devouring the Hardy Boys books, both the old-timey hardcovers and the edgier, teen focused soft covers. I’m interested to see which style they go with, or if they blend some of the old and new.

She Dies Tomorrow (Dec. 4)

After waking up convinced that she is going to die tomorrow, Amy’s carefully mended life begins to unravel. As her delusions of certain death become contagious to those around her, Amy and her friends’ lives spiral out of control in a tantalizing descent into madness.

This psychological dark comedy caught my attention when it came out for limited release. Good on Hulu for snapping it up for a quick home release.

Letterkenny, Season 9 (Dec. 26)

Letterkenny kicks off post-fight with Dierks (Tyler Hynes), and the Hicks, Skids, and Hockey Players attend an American Buck and Doe. Katy (Michelle Mylett) takes her scorched earth dating strategy back to Letterkenny and Gail (Lisa Codrington) gets some action of her own. Meanwhile, The Hockey Players learn about Judaism and the whole town gets really into sleepover activities like movies, board games, and girl talk. Then, a competing restaurant opens in Letterkenny and Tanis (Tiio Horn) starts her own energy drink.

This quirky, small town comedy features gonzo characters and razor sharp writing. It may be daunting to dive in nine seasons deep, but it’s well worth a binge to catch up.
