What's New on Hulu: January 2021

Hulu hits the new year strong with a mix of originals and recent releases.

Hulu is certainly capitalizing on lots of niche and indie films having had to sit out the theater experience. The month is jam packed with recent releases that deserve a second look. Hulu compliments this line-up with a ton of classic movies and a handful of intriguing originals.

New and Notable.

  • Save Yourselves (January 1)

A young Brooklyn couple head to an upstate cabin to unplug from their phones and reconnect with each other. Blissfully unaware of their surroundings, they are left to their own devices as the planet falls under attack.

Hulu opens the month with this quirky comedy that delighted critics but flew under the radar for lots of quarantined viewers. Check it out.

  • The Sister (January 22)

Nathan has never been able to forget the worst night of his life — a party that led to the sudden, shocking death of a young woman. Only he and Bob know what really happened, and they resolved to keep it that way. But now, years later, Bob appears at Nathan’s door with terrifying news that threatens to tear Nathan’s world apart… Because Nathan has his own secrets now — secrets that could destroy everything he has desperately fought to build for himself and his family.

This mini-series based on the acclaimed novel Burial gets adapted by the author for the screen, and it looks gripping.

  • Derek Delgaudio – In and of Itself (January 22)

A story reveals the illusion of one’s identity in Derek DelGaudio’s modern allegory, IN & OF ITSELF. New ways of seeing the unseeable are explored, as memories from yesterday, inexplicable events witnessed today and secrets imagined for tomorrow all blend together, creating a perpetual paradox of a show. The writer and producers of NOTHING TO HIDE reunite with executive producer Neil Patrick Harris to present this theatrical experience, directed by Frank Oz.

It’s hard to quantify a stage show, let alone a stage show being reworked into a film, but this project certainly sells you on the intrigue.
