What's New on Netflix: February 2021.

Netflix rolls out a solid February line-up led by some great foreign originals.

Streaming giant Netflix usually floods their roster with domestic originals. Of late, I’ve noticed them starting to round out the crop with more foreign TV series and exclusive films. That’s smart business as growing markets in India and China look to be the future for them. It’s also great for US viewers, as we get some amazing content you couldn’t find anywhere else. I sure don’t recall basic cable carrying Indian cop dramas or Korean science fiction spectacles!

New and Notable

  • Kid Cosmic (Feb. 2)

From the creator of The Powerpuff Girls, Craig McCraken, comes a new series from Netflix Animation that follows a young boy who dreams of having superpowers and after coming across cosmic stones, that dream seemingly comes true.

A new cartoon from the Powerpuff Girls creator, and with a Spaceman Spiff vibe…and is weird as all hell? Yeah. I’m here for it.

  • Space Sweepers (Feb. 5)

Set in 2092, we follow the crew of spaceship Victory who are salvaging space debris…but in one of their finds, they come across something completely unexpected.

Netflix’s acquisitions from abroad are on fire this month. The Yin Yang Master, All My Friends Are Dead, and Space Sweepers all look like winners.

  • High Rise Invasion (Feb. 25)

The unhinged and gory death-game manga High-Rise Invasion, created by Tsuina Miura (Ajin: Demi-Human) and Takahiro Oba (Box!), finally gets an anime adaptation! High school student Yuri Honjo finds herself lost in an “abnormal space” where countless skyscrapers are connected by suspension bridges and “masked figures” mercilessly slaughter their confused and fleeing victims. To survive in this hellish world, she has two choices: kill the masked figures or be killed. Yuri is determined to survive in order to destroy this irrational world, but what will be her ultimate fate?

I do love me some Japanese manga about psychopaths. Call it a kink.
