What’s New on Netflix: May 2018.

Netflix is coming for your funny bone this May with specials from Carol Burnett, Steve Martin, Martin Short and Michelle Wolf.

Here we see a pair of elusive Martins in their natural habitat.

Sci Fi and Comedy are the peanut butter and jelly in Netflix’ programming sandwich this May.  The return of legendary comedians such as Carol Burnett and Steve Martin is like a solar eclipse, so make sure to check out their new specials.  If you’re done laughing, you can start screaming when Netflix releases the new sci fi thriller Cargo and the sci fi/horror series The Rain.  All this joins a returning line up of high profile original series like Dear White People, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

The list of classic movies being added to Netflix shrinks each month, especially in comparison to their original content.  This month helps to alleviate the scarcity by having many big name arrivals:  Coco, Only God Forgives, and Desolation are all worth your time.  (As a funny bit of trivia, since both Amazon and Hulu have the Hannibal Lecter thriller Manhunter in their line-up this month, Netflix has added the remake – Red Dragon – to theirs!)

This Wolf breathes fire!

Netflix has their usual blend of documentaries and comedy specials this moth, but those looking to spot a rare conjunction should check out Carol Burnett, Steven Martin, and Martin Short’s specials.  As for new original movies dropping in May, keep an eye out for Cargo: a man infected with a killer plague tries to find a place his infant daughter will be safe during what may be the end of the world.  This is a feature length remake of a short film, both directed by Australian actress and director Yolanda Ramke.

Hmm…don’t you mean “The Stairs”?

Early in the month we get the return of Dear White People, the series adaptation of the hard-edged comedy of the same name.  David Letterman has two specials this month, Joel McHale has his season finale of the Joel McHale Show on Sunday the 13th this month, and Bill Nye is still trying to save the world for a third season.  My interest is in the new series by Michelle Wolf, of Daily Show fame, who made a big splash this week at the White House Correspondents Dinner.  If you’re in to science fiction (and according 90% of the new TV series out lately, you are) then check out The Rain, coming May 4th.
