What's New on Netflix: September 2020.
Prepare to consume mass quantities.

If you’re riding out the pandemic with Netflix as your guide, you’re in for a solid month in September. It was difficult to pick just three projects to highlight: nearly every day drops a documentary, TV series, or original film that looks worth the investment.

If you’re worried that Netflix is hiding a poor line-up of classics under all the shiny new toys, don’t be afraid. Tons of great movies, from Coneheads to Red Dragon, joins a solid assortment of third-party television shows.

New and Notable.

  • I’m Thinking of Ending Things (Sep. 4) – Based on the bestseller, this “break-up goes very bad” horror is directed by Charlie Kaufman, the scribe behind mind-breaking films like Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Full of misgivings, a young woman travels with her new boyfriend to his parents’ secluded farm.

  • Dragon’s Dogma (Sep. 17) – Dragon’s Dogma is a fascinating, baroque video game that I could never get into because of the game mechanics. But man, was the story something else. Hopefully Netflix does a better job with this than they did with Castlevania

After losing his home to a dragon, Ethan sets out to hunt it down once and for all. A pawn appears by his side and serves to protect his life. But the dangers that lie in wait for Ethan are beyond their imaginations, for when you fight a monster… you just may become one too.

  • Ennola Holmes (Sep. 23) – OK. I know we’ve been inundated with alternative versions of Sherlock Holmes over the last decade. Despite my love of the character, I rarely check these “what if” stories out. But the cast has my interest piqued: Millie Bobby Brown, Sam Claflin, Henry Cavill and Helena Bonham-Carter. Not bad.

When Enola Holmes—Sherlock’s teen sister—discovers her mother missing, she sets off to find her, becoming a super-sleuth in her own right as she outwits her famous brother and unravels a dangerous conspiracy around a mysterious young Lord.

Netflix: September 2020.
