What’s New on VOD: Netflix November 2017.

Led by Marvel’s The Punisher, Netflix unleashes a torrent of original TV shows in November.

What's New on VOD: Netflix November 2017.While Stranger Things 2 may be in the rear view, Netflix is hoping to keep your attention on their original series for another month.  The big name is sure to be Marvel’s The Punisher, but with close to 30 new seasons from their exclusive offerings you’d be hard pressed not to find something to tide you over till turkey day.  The output of their studio is so prolific this month that there are barely more classic movies arriving on the service than originals.  It looks like the transition from a glorified rental store to a full fledged studio is nearly complete.

Netflix November 2017.

Original Movies/Miniseries.

It’s going to be hard to pick a favorite this month, with so many new specials, documentaries and original films.  To that end, we’ll pass along a few trailers that caught our attention for you to choose from.

  • Alias Grace (11/3)
  • Mea Culpa (11/10)
  • The Killer (11/10)
  • DeRay Davis: How To Act Black (11/14)
  • A Christmas Prince (11/17)
  • Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond – Featuring a Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton (11/17)
  • Mudbound (11/17)
  • Beat Bugs: All Together Now (11/21)
  • Brian Regan: Nunchucks and Flamethrowers (11/21)
  • Saving Capitalism (11/21)
  • Godless (11/22)
  • Cuba and the Cameraman (11/23)

Our Picks:

Alias Grace (miniseries):  Based on Margaret Atwood’s powerful novel, it tells the story of Grace Marks, a young woman who is charged with conspiring in the gruesome deaths of her employer and his housekeeper.

Mudboud:  The story of two poor men in Mississippi, one a black veteran returning from World War 2 and the other a poor farmer whose family is on the edge of ruin.

Godless (miniseries):  A western town populated by tough frontier women becomes a battleground as an infamous outlaw gang arrives looking for one of their own who has gone rogue.

Original Series.

Once again, going through 30 selections is a bridge too far…especially since many of these offerings have multiple seasons already under their belt.  We’ll highlight a handful of brand new franchises that we think have promise.

  • Ten Percent (aka Call My Agent!): Season 2 (11/2)
  • The Big Family Cooking Showdown: Season 1 (11/3)
  • Fate/Apocrypha: Part 1 (11/7)

  • Luna Petunia: Season 3 (11/17)
  • Marvel’s The Punisher (11/17)

  • Trailer Park Boys: Out of the Park: USA: Season 1 (11/23)
  • Glitch: Season 2 (11/28)
  • Good Morning Call: Season 2 (11/28)

Our Picks:

Fate/Apocrypha Part 1:  One kingdom made off with the Holy Grail during the last great war, and how has declared its independance.  The ruling council counters this move by recruiting solidiers from all walks of life to fight a holy war greater than any ever seen in history.

Marvel’s The Punisher:  Frank Castle thought he had killed the man who took the lives of his family, but now he is discovering that his loss was just the tip of a conspiracy that reaches further than he ever imagined.

Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters Season 1:  Three teenagers are exposed to a chemical that allows them to morph their bodies, and of course they decide to become a team of super heroes.
