Netflix drops a ton of new stuff for October, including a little show called Stranger Things.

What's New on VOD: Netflix October 2017.
Maybe you’ve heard of this show…

Amazon Prime and Hulu both unveiled live streaming of NFL games in September.  Netflix is responding in “hold my beer” fashion by trotting out new seasons of most of their hottest shows, plenty of notable comedy specials, and a score of original movies and documentaries.  The blitz is on, and their competitors are going to have to scramble to keep up with all of the new content Netflix will be streaming in October.

Netflix October 2017.

Original Films:

    • Rodney Carrington:  Here Comes the Truth (10/3)
    • The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson  (10/6)
    • Christina P:  Mother Inferior  (10/10)
    • Fe De Etarras  (10/12)
    • El Especial de Alex Fernandez, el Especial  (10/13)
    • Kingdom of Us  (10/13)

    • Wheelman  (10/20)

  • Joan Didion:  The Center Will Not Hold  (10/27)
  • Judah Friedlander:  American is the Greatest Country in the United States (10/30)

Our Pick:  Patton Oswalt – Annihilation.

While we don’t have a trailer for this comedy special, I’m still on board.  Patton Oswalt’s stand up is impeccable, so I have no reservations about the quality.  This is his first special since the tragic loss of his wife, so expect to have as much heart as mirth.  He’s always been able to blend smart observations with riffs on modern life, so if you’re already a fan you know that his comedy isn’t just fluff.

Original Series:

    • Bonus Family (Bonusfamiljen) Season 1  (10/5)
    • ID – O Season 1  (10/6)

    • Skylanders Academy Season 2  (10/6)
    • Suburra Season 1  (10/6)
    • Word Party  Season 3  (10/6)
    • MINDHUNTER Season 1 (10/13)
    • Super Monsters  Season 1  (10/13)
    • Voltron – Legendary Defender  Season 4  (10/13)
    • Haters Back Off  Season 2  (10/20)
    • Wanted Season 1 & 2 (10/24)
    • Stranger Things Season 2  (10/27)

  • Zumbo’s Just Desserts  Season 1  (10/31)

Our Pick: ID – 0.

A science fiction anime that blends aspects of Ghost in the Shell, EUREKA Seven, and cyber punk futurism.  The art style is a blend of cell shading and traditional animation that gives it an ethereal look that fits the setting.  Some of Netflix’s other in-house anime has been solid (look at our review of Little Witch Academia for a recent example) so I’m confident this will be up to par.  Check it out…once you’re done binging on Stranger Things, of course.
